The Sony NEX 6 is a high performing hybrid camera with excellent speed and produced quality images. It has user friendly controls and features. The camera has a compact light weight design with a comfortable grip. It comes with a 3 inch LCD screen which can be titled. Manual focusing is made easier by the focus peaking function.  The IOS performance is very good while the dynamic range in the RAW files is excellent. This camera produces high definition video at 1080 pixels with 60p. The printing quality is good looking with a 24 by 36 size.  The exposure modes included are auto, manual or shutter modes.

This camera has a fast hybrid AF system which puts together contrast detection and 99 point phase autofocus detection.  It consists 11 by 9 array points of auto focus on both the LCD and EVF screens.

It is capable of shooting at 10 frames per second at a 16 megapixels resolution while at the same time track focusing and keeping moving items in focus.

The Sony NEX 6 contains the Sony’s new multi interface shoe which integrates 21 additional pins which are used for adding more accessories to the camera and supports additional flashes.

In addition to this, there is an integrated wifi radio to allow for the easy transfer of images to tablets or cell phones for uploading and editing or directly to social media.

The technical details of this camera include a sensor resolution of 16.1 megapixels, an Exmor APS HD CMOS optical sensor, an optical sensor size of 15.6 by 23.5 mm and the sensor features include a dust reduction and an anti-dust coating.

The image recording format are RWA, JPEG and RAW+JPEG while the digital video is in the AVCHD ,H.264.the exposure  and white balance features include light sensitivity at ISO 100-25600, ISO auto (100-3200). The exposure metering is of spot, multi segment and centre weighted with the metering zone being of 1200.

The minimum shutter speed if 30 seconds while the maximum shutter speed is of 1/400 shutter speed. The exposure compensation is a plus or minus 3 EV range, with a range of EV 0-20 at ISO 100 and the X-sync speed at 1/160 seconds.

The display format is at 921,600 pixels with an OLED viewfinder which has a resolution of 2359296 pixels.

Other additional features include a stereo microphone, CD-ROM drive and USB port peripheral devices.  The camera is compatible with apple Mac OS, Microsoft window 7, XP, Vista operating systems. The face detection features include a smile shutter and face recognition system. The camera also has an auto HDR mode when recording videos.  In addition to this, the camera interface has a wireless LAN. The autofocus of the Sony NEX 6 has 49 high contrast AF areas

The Sony NEX 6 measures 4.7 by 2.6 by 1.7 inches and weighs 12.7 ounces with the card and battery. When it is fully loaded and ready for shoot, it weighs 16.5 ounces together with the 16-50 mm lens.

The corners of this camera are softened with spatter painted surfaces.  There is an AF assist lamp, infra red remote port which is on the grip, lens release button which is well located; right and left microphone holes which flank the lens and a large APS-C sensor.

On the top is a 16-50 mm lens which allows the NEX camera to be pocket friendly. The camera is a little thick behind the lens mount. There is also an EVF rubber eyecup which is noticeable and it is made out of soft material. The new multi interface shoe makes the camera compatible with intelligent accessories and standard non-dedicated strobes.

The pop up flash is located right of the hot shoe which can be easily accessed. The power button is placed around the shutter button while the function button is standard.  The mode dial consists of PASM, quick access to scene modes and the sweet paranoma. There are also two intelligent auto modes. The gap between the lens and grip in this camera is tight.

On the back, the large rubber eyecup makes it difficult to activate the diopter correction dial. The camera is not also powered by the playback button as other cameras are.  The AEL button is easily programmable and is not switchable.

On the top and bottom of the LCD are standard soft button flanks which change with the menu or mode.

The control wheel is integrated with buttons which aids in fast adjustments to the menu on the right side of the model while cycling through the display options is enabled by the DISP button.

The storage capabilities include a SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card, memory stick PRO duo, UHS-I compliant and memory stick PRO-HG duo.  It captures images in 12 bit RAW and JPEG formats while the JPEG format is standard and fine.

The Sony NEX 6 is powered by a 7.2 volts lithium battery which is rechargeable.  It is capable of taking up to 360 still images on the LCD screen. When using the EVF, one can take up to 270 shots comfortably. The battery can be recharged using the USB port, AC adapter and USB cable.

The connectivity of the Sony NEX 6 includes a built-in wifi and a multi interface hot shoe which includes a USB 2.0 port of high speed which permits for charging and data transfer. There is also a type C mini HDMI video output. The camera does not provide for a standard definition video output.  The infra red receiver has an optional RMT-DSLR1 or RMT-DSLR2 wireless remotes.

The pros of this camera include a 3 inch OLED EVF tilting LCD screen monitor which provides viewfinder flexibility. This also has a quick and decisive AF on still images; on moving objects, the AF is continuous and decent; and a full high definition 1080p for video recording at 60p.

The limitations include a non-touch screen, and the hybrid AF system is still not well developed as compared to competitor cameras.
