Anton Zaslavski, also goes by Zedd, is a young German bred Dj with the impressive gift of a Mozart with a MacOs. He spooked into the spotlight in 2012 after blowing our minds as he opened for Lady Gaga on her global tour throughout Asia. This I’m sure of for there’s a tweet to prove it (mad detective skills proven).

Since then, and the major debut of Clarity, Zedd has had us off our seats.

Despite what it’s gotta say on his resume, Zedd is not that big on making music on the go (and has admitted to making last minute adjustments in hotel rooms on the day of a few shows) but over the half a decade he has been in the production industry, he has marvelously excelled.

A connoisseur of musical instruments himself, Zedd distinguishes himself from other electro music producers due to his dire inbred need to create music pertinent to emotional compassing instead of the funkiest beat status quo that generally brackets electro music. In every track on every album Zedd labours on, is a few intricately devised beats flowing like an echo behind some of the greatest vocals of our time. It’s not just about dance beats for this maestro, but a sort of art in search of the most emotive sound familiar to the human soul.

His best work so far has got to be his masterpiece collaboration with the Foxes in the 2012 hit Clarity. It is good to note the single was re released in England in 2014 and the sales all but doubled.

For the record, Zedd utilised Steinberg Cubase software. He’s not the only professional to do so either. More than a handful of famous Djs have fessed up to employing the use of the software for their major hits and popular gigs. Guys like Avicii, Flux Pavilion and German born Hardwell of the infamous Survivors track have a copy on their computers.

Anyway, so Zedd’s been using the program since the very beginning of his trajectorous career and has on more than one occasion riled on social media (ahem Twitter) over its failings. Steinberg has however been making several updates. We are currently on the Cubase 7.5. Neat huh?

@steve-duda dudaaaa. LFO tool is crashing with the new cubase 7 and I’m crying over here :'(

Cubase is a digital audio work station available as a mobile audio work station as well. The software is primarily available for Windows and Mac operating systems.

The Steinberg Cubase 7 includes features such as a full screen mode, total scalability, seamless adjust capabilities to small screens and large displays, 300 channel strip that institutes pro console sound and radio ready production.Plus glibal bypass for effects, drag n drop prowess, plug in search feature, Voxengon’s 64 band curve EQ, built in pro grade spectrum analye, enables the transfer of sound clips from one track to another seamlessly as is, and Chord Track for chord creation via MIDI creation.

Sythesia Creation

On the Clarity track, Zedd utilised the basic Voxengon 64 band curve (much similar to Taylor Swift’s music) and Chord Track to create an ingenious drift of strummed chords that dip and strain beautifully behind the vocals.

B♭m7/E♭sus4/Fm7/Cm7/D♭ – B♭m7/E♭sus4/Fm7/Cm7/D♭/A♭

Zedd reflects mainly on the Bm, Em, C chords all through. Usually this combo might seem strenuous and crudely synthetic but on the Cubase the chords seam smoothly, flexibly verse after verse.

Here’s an example of the Clarity chorus sans chord wise.

Chorus:

Am      D       Em      Bm      C

If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy

Am      D        Em     Bm      C

If our love’s insanity why are you my clarity

Am – D – Em-Bm-C

Am – D – Em-Bm-C

Am – D – Em-Bm-C

Am – D – Em-Bm-C

Am     D        Em     Bm      C

If our love is tragedy why are you my remedy

Am     D        Em     Bm      C

If our love’s insanity why are you my clarity
